Fans following Women's EURO in record number

UEFA Women's EURO 2017 is the biggest female tournament ever organised by UEFA and has been attracting TV, online and spectator figures in the millions to match.

The business end of UEFA Women's EURO 2017 is still to come but the biggest female tournament ever organised by UEFA has already been attracting fans like never before. We've had millions tuning in for broadcasts, smashing all previous records, while total visitors on the UEFA Women's EURO section on UEFA.com is set to double.

TV

  • Cumlative audience for group stage of 81.5 million (up from 60.8 million in 2013).
  • Total audience so far up 116% (72.5 million) across nine markets for which comparative data available: Finland, France, Germany, Iceland (matchday 1 & 2 only), Netherlands, Norway (matchday 1 & 2 only), Spain, Sweden, UK.
  • The biggest audiences have been in Germany, where 7 million viewers (24% market share) watched them play Russia on ARD and 6.1 million (22.4% market share) saw the game with Sweden on ZDF. Figures up 22% from 2013 and 196% from 2009.

  • In France, 3.3 million (16.6% market share) saw Les Bleues open their campaign against Iceland on France 2, beating any audience in 2013 and double the audience on W9 for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup opener against England. The channel also attracted an audience of 1.4 million for Russia v Germany.
  • Channel 4 has had audiences of 2.2 million in UK for England games; 2009 final attracted 1.4 million on BBC.
  • Over 800,000 viewers watched Austria play Iceland on public broadcaster ORF, a market share of over 30% and the highest number ever for a women's match in Austria.
  • Audience increase in Norway is 93% from 2013.

Online

Total visitors to the UEFA Women's EURO section on UEFA.com and the new women's football app is 2,426,690, and well on course to double the 2013 total for the whole tournament of 1.5 million.

At the stadiums

  • Total attendance: 148,458
  • All Netherlands matches sold-out
  • Opening attendance for Netherlands v Norway of 21,700 a record for a Dutch women's football game
  • 9,457 for Germany v Sweden highest for game not involving the hosts
  • Thousands of supporters have joined the Fan Walks to the stadiums
