Football for social development

UEFA's 2014/15 Football and Social Responsibility Report (FSR) builds on the successes of the past by assimilating lessons learned. This third edition of the report also marks the midway point of the current five-year FSR cycle (2012–17).

The report highlights the achievements of a busy season. These include the introduction of harsher sanctions for any kind of discriminatory conduct by players, coaches, officials or supporters; the promotion of respect and diversity; and the inclusion of 'Football for All Abilities' showcase matches – including amputee football, blind football, and Special Olympics – at the UEFA Champions Festival in Berlin, so underlining that football belongs to everybody.

"I sincerely believe we are on the right path," says Peter Gilliéron, UEFA Executive Committee member and chairman of the UEFA Fair Play and Social Responsibility Committee.

"With its partners, UEFA will continue to play its part in tapping into the power of football for social development, in a spirit of collaboration and transparency, while staying humble with regards to the challenges lying ahead."

Structured by sector of actions, UEFA's various social responsibility projects are financed through a long-standing 'vice to virtue' funding mechanism, whereby fines imposed by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body contribute to the FSR budget of €5.86m.

Looking ahead, the next report will include additional chapters on UEFA EURO 2016 Social Responsibility and Sustainability achievements, and on the progress made with the new 2016–2020 cycle of the UEFA HatTrick scheme for National Associations' Social Responsibility projects, funded by EURO 2016 revenues.

Until then, we hope you will enjoy the new interactive version of the current report with its improved benchmarking standards, led by the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines.
