Chelsea 0-3 Wolfsburg
Zsanett Jakabfi's hat-trick gave last season's runners-up a deserved victory at Stamford Bridge, the scene of their 2013 final win against Lyon. Jakabfi struck twice before the break, an opportunist chip and a header through the legs of Hedvig Lindahl. She completed her treble after a great run and unselfish pass by Caroline Graham Hansen, who got the winner last year when Wolfsburg won 2-1 at Chelsea in the round of 16.

Avaldsnes 2-5 Lyon
Competition debutants Avaldnses twice pegged back the holders to 2-1 and 3-2 but in the end the French side secured a commanding lead to take to Stade de Lyon next Thursday. Camille Abily got two goals and Ada Hegerberg, last season's competition top scorer, claimed the fifth in her native Norway. Last season's Norwegian runners-up came through the qualifying round.

Hibernian 0-6 Bayern München
Bayern were in dominant mood at Easter Road, Vivianne Miedema and Melanie Leupolz both scoring twice with Stephanie van der Gragt and Melanie Behringer also on target. Bayern could even afford the luxury of a late missed penalty from Nicole Rolser ahead of the second leg next Wednesday.

Breidablik 0-1 Rosengård
Lotta Schelin, who scored a single-club competition record 41 goals for Lyon before her summer move to Rosengård, added her 42nd in Europe in the eighth minute to give the Swedish side victory in Iceland. The visitors, who have reached the quarter-finals four times in five years, dominated throughout, Marta hitting the post.

Athletic Club 2-1 Fortuna Hjørring
Athletic ended a nine-year absence with victory at San Mamés against the 2003 runners-up in front of more than 9,000 fans. The visitors had much of the play and deserved their equaliser, only for Maite Oroz to win it in the 83rd minute following Erika Vázquez's through ball. Fortuna have work to do in Denmark next Wednesday if they are to keep up their record of getting through this round every year since it was introduced in 2009/10, something only Lyon can match.

Medyk Konin 4-3 Brescia
Last season's quarter-finalists Brescia went 3-1 up with 20 minutes to go. But goals in the last 14 minutes from an Aleksandra Sikora volley, 37-year-old captain Anna Gawrońska and, with her second of the game, Liliana Kostova – direct from a corner – gave Polish champions Medyk hope of getting past this round for the first time next Thursday. Kostova's first was a fine shot from distance.

Twente 2-0 Sparta Praha
At FC Twente Stadion, which in August will stage the UEFA Women's EURO 2017 final, the home side took 79 minutes to break the deadlock before Maruschka Waldus gave them a lead added to just before the end by Jill Roord's free-kick. Lineth Beerensteyn's 62nd-minute introduction for Twente was crucial in turning a game Sparta had been dominating.

Apollon 1-1 Slavia Praha
Veronika Pincová scored in the fifth added minute for last season's quarter-finalists Slavia in Cyprus just when it seemed Apollon were set to give themselves a great chance of ending their run of five losses at this stage. Lisa Alborghetti had converted a 53rd-minute penalty for Apollon, who go to Eden Stadium next Wednesday.

Sturm Graz 0-6 Zürich
Zürich introduced debutants Sturm to European football the hard way in Austria. Canada winger Adriana Leon scored a hat-trick and made two more in a brilliant performance.

SFK 2000 Sarajevo 0-0 Rossiyanka
Sarajevo held a Rossiyanka side who comfortably won the Russian title this year despite the visitors having 18 shots to the Bosnian hosts' five. That is a big improvement on when SFK 2000 lost 3-0 at home and 5-0 away against Zvezda-2005 seven years ago.

BIIK-Kazygurt 3-1 Verona
Kazakhstan's BIIK have fallen in this round two years running but could end that run next Wednesday in Italy after scoring twice in the first 12 minutes. Although Melania Gabbiadini pulled one back for the 2008 semi-finalists after half-time, Gulnara Gabelia got her second of the game and sixth of this season's competition with ten minutes left.

St. Pölten 0-2 Brøndby
Nicoline Sørensen scored in each half as the Danish side took a firm grip of the tie ahead of the second leg next Wednesday. It was a game full of chances at both ends with the Austrian side having much of the play against the three-time semi-finalists.
