Basic life support and trauma scenarios were the central theme of a UEFA Football Doctor Education Programme course in Croatia.

UEFA experts joined doctors from the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) and domestic clubs to exchange vital medical information and enhance overall knowledge and expertise across Croatia's sports medical community. HNS president Davor Šuker was also present to welcome the participants.

In addition to injury diagnosis and treatment, other programme topics include on-field medical emergencies, roles and responsibilities of the football doctor, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries, psychology, football nutrition and the anti-doping campaign within European football.

The FDEP's content and educational material has been compiled in conjunction with UEFA's Medical Committee and renowned sports medicine experts.

Participants take tests at the end of each course to evaluate the degree of skills and knowledge obtained. The evaluation is felt to be important, because alongside learning essential skills, all participants are then able to 'cascade' their own version of the course down to doctors in their own country.

"The cascaded FDEP course in Croatia was a perfect way to develop football-specific medical knowledge in our country. With the support of UEFA, there can be no doubt that we have enhanced the knowledge of our elite doctors and furthered the strength of Croatian football medicine."
Dr Zoran Bahtijarević, Croatia's senior national team doctor
