Borislav Mihaylov has been re-elected for a fourth term as president of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU).

Mihaylov won his first mandate in 2005, which was followed by re-election in 2009 and 2014. From 2001 to 2004, he also served as the association’s vice-president.

In 2011, Mihaylov was elected as a member of the UEFA Executive Committee.

“This gives me the belief to continue working with my team for the good of the game,” Mihaylov said after his re-election at the association’s assembly in Sofia.

“My dream is to see the national team reaching major tournaments again. This is our aim. The different youth teams must continue to improve. I also wish to improve coaching standards.” Mihaylov pledged help to smaller municipalities with their infrastructures wherever possible.

Mihaylov was one of Bulgaria’s greatest-ever players, winning 102 national team caps as a goalkeeper. His proudest moment came at the FIFA World Cup in 1994, when he was captain of the Bulgarian team that reached the semi-finals.
