England's Football Association (FA) is one of the pioneering national associations that have contributed to the success of the UEFA Certificate in Football Management (CFM) programme, which is strengthening the management of football across Europe.

The world's oldest national football association staged pilot courses when the programme began in 2013, and has just completed its third edition as the CFM – designed to help train the football family's staff members and representatives – expands across Europe, with various countries holding  courses adapted to their own circumstances.

No fewer than 27 participants graduated at the latest course hosted by the FA in Manchester. These comprised 17 FA staff members, five representatives from English county associations, and – emphasising the international feel of the CFM – five guests: UEFA staff members and staff from the national associations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYR Macedonia and Lithuania.

The FA's new chief executive Martin Glenn attended the graduation ceremony at Manchester's Midland Hotel, along with the FA group human resources director Mel Millner.

The nine-month UEFA CFM programme includes studies in football organisation, strategy and strategic management, operational management, marketing and sponsorship, communications, media and public relations and event organisation. Six interactive online modules and three face-to-face seminars enable graduates to learn skills to help them move with confidence into senior positions and make maximum use of their studies.
